Silvano foals Irelands top priced foals
In the yearly foal sales prices for all Ireland a Silvano foal was the second top priced foal in the whole country at public sales. He now ranks above many of the stallions whose names are familiar to us all. And in the ratings of stallions with 3 or more progeny sold at sales he now ranks 6th, an amazing achievement for a stallion so young. The other stallions in this list include Cruising, and Lux Z, two stallions much older than Silvano. So a better end to 2007 we could not ask for!
Womanizer in the ribbons again at Cavan International
At the recent Cavan International show Womanizer had a great finish to the season by placing in the 4 yr old final. Judged by rider Paul O Shea and Barry O Connor, he jumped very well indeed showing all the usual scope and energy we have come to expect from him. Initally he went into second place, but was later outdone and finished fifth overall. As a stallion he has alot more to contend with in these classes than his competition, but we were delighted to see him placed again. In the 3 4yr old classes he has contested this year he has placed 2nd, 3rd and 5th! We couldn't have asked for any more! He is home now for a well deserved break, and is enjoying the last of the grass!
Silvano Colt Foal sold for €10,000 at Cavan Foal Sales
Congrats to John Mc Ardle, his colt foal by Silvano was sold for €10,000 at Cavan Foal sales last Thursday, 4/10/07. We were unable to attend the sales but were told by many present that he was an absolute smasher, and there were plenty to buy him!
Huntingfield Rebel foals still commanding top prices at Foal Sales
Huntingfield Rebel foals still fetched some of the best prices at last weeks 2 day RID sales in Cavan. Congrats to Michael Donner whose lovely filly foal sold for €8,000, one of the best prices of the week! Full report to follow on prices...
Womanizer in the ribbons again at Cavan Indoor Championships!

Another week of good success for Womanizer and rider Shelia White. The pair attended at the Cavan Indoor Championships and on Friday Womanizer qualified in second place for the four yr old final. Just 30 from an initial 100+ horses reached the final, which was judged by Barry O Connor and Eamon Rice. The course was a difficult one for 4 yr olds but again Womanizer gave a lovely display of jumping finishing in 3rd place, just a half point between himself and James Kernan in second. So we were thrilled to see him in the line up again. Shelia says he has a wonderful attitude to his job, and as this is only his fourth outing , it makes it even better. He is on a well deserved break now, enjoying the last of the grass!
Womanizer takes 2nd place in the National Championships!
We had a wonderful day out at the lovely Barnadown Showjumping facility yesterday, 30/8/07, for the National Championships . Following a second place in Tuesdays qualifier, Womanizer finished 2nd in the final of the 4 yr old competition.
He is still green, but impressed the judges with his careful and scopey jump. He is really brave and careful, as this was only his second outing this year, His rider Shelia White had him just right on the day! Its a great class with some of the top 4 yr olds competing for a prize fund of €4,5000, so we were thrilled to be present to see him in the ribbons. He finished on a score of 111.5, the winner scoring 113. So well done Shelia, and we look forward to the next outing
RDS Champions and Nationwide Championship winners sired by Kylemore Stallions
French Buffet Foal wins the Filly Foal Championship in the RDS Dublin Horse Show.
Jim Tempanys beautiful filly foal " I'm a Star Too" out of his mare Leader Star was crowned champion Filly at the RDS .Its a wonderful achievement for both Jim and French Buffet, to sire the winner of such a prestigiuos class. The pair also took reserve champion position in the 20,000 euro breeders championship. Photos will follow!
Silvano also had progeny in the ribbions, when Carnside Hoity Toity became Reserve Champion of the 3 yr olf Filly class.
And of course not to be outdone,Huntingfield Rebel was also representedin the RDS 5 yr old jumping class by his son Creevagh Grey Man.. He also had the champion filly foal at Virginia Show , and this foal, owned by Brian Gallagher, also won the qualifier for the All Ireland final in Ballinasloe, so fingers crossed! Good luck Brian!
There are many more foals winning throughout the country, and I will get around to detailing all the great results shortly!
2007 Season Draws to a Close
We have had a most hectic season once again, and I will finally get around to keeping this site updated again! It s almost impossible to get to the computer as the days are so long and intense during the season. We had a great season, with all the stallions doing very well indeed. July was a difficult month as so many of the mares were fed up being wet, and didn't cycle very well. However, we managed to get almost all in foal through sheer determination..
Womanizer is gone to Shelia White to jump in the latter half of the years four yr old competitions, so I look forward to bringing you some news on how he does. Shelia loves him, says he is very brave and careful, with incredible reactions, so lets hope they do well! He has the most pleeasing attitude and loves to have fun.
Silvano is gone out full time for a well deserved break. He hasn't had proper field time for 3 years due to his injury, so he will stay out now until the weather changes, hopefully for at least 6 weeks. He is delighted to be free again.
Huntingfield Rebel is also out for some rest and relaxation-- he deserves it so much too. He does come in at night though, having always been so much TLC from Marily and Susie!
2006 news:
Silvano Back In Action
As most readers will know by now our stallion Silvano suffered a terrible injury just after his approvals in Oct 2004. He fractured his pedal bone, an injury that can spell the end for the majority of horses. However, with fantastic treatment from our Vet Ned O Flynn, also the team at Gowings in the curragh, and the homeopath remedies from Vet Philip Mc Manus, Silvano has at last returned to competitive life. He spent 18 months on complete box rest, only being moved for shock wave therepy and x -rays, every 2 months. Our farrier Miley Dunning played a key role in his recovery. Also, lots of prayers fromour good friend Maura Walker, who has a direct line ,meant we were able put Silvano back into very light work following the covering season, and he is now in Holland with his rider Kristian Johannensson. They recently competed in their first show the international Veedam show, where Silvano jumped 2 clears, and qualified into the final. However, Kristian decided that was enough for his first show and called it a day! We have watched it on DVD, and Silvano seems to have even more jump and spring, is jumping fluidly and happily! There is no guarentee he will remain sound, and many say we are mad to send him back jumping, but it is not everyday a stallion with his potential and pedigree comes along. So fingers crossed, and keep praying!
Market Square Takes Reserve Champion in RDS!
Our beautiful and kind Market Square took Reserve Champion at the RDS last week! We were thrilled. It was one of the best supported classes in recent years, and I felt that he did so well, being 16 years old, to line out and show what a beautiful gentleman he is! Robert Oliver judge told our friend and Market Square's breeder, Juilia Crosbie he was a magnificent animal! I phoned Julia in early June to ask her if she would show him for me, as she is a pro in this area. With her advise, and a very luckey bridle on loan form Marily and Susie of Suma Stud, we did it! I thought Market Square looked a picture, and although 1st eluded us, I was just as delighted to take reserve in such a hot class, with an older stallion. Its easier to have the young ones looking well. And I just heard there is a Strong Statement on the Sweedish eventing team at the WEG. (Market Square is also by Strong Statement). Here is a delightful photo of Julia with Market Square.
I must say, his temperment is second to none. He didn't whinnie once in all the time he was there, and was a gentleman in every way even though he was stabled accross form a very pretty mare!
July 2006, The End of a Fantastic Season
What a hectic season its been. Our feet hardly touched the ground all season! Therefore, a very out of date site until now! The numbers of mares surpassed all our expectations. Huntingfield Rebel and French Buffet proved extremely popular. Breeders have recognised quality and performance in these two and voted with their feet, or rather mares! Silvano also did extremely well, considering his off the scene status due to his injury. His daughter , Lynn and Stephen Carnduff's Carnside Hoity Toity pictured on the home page, has been winning everything in the 2 yr olds up north this year. A full list of her achievements will follow. His 3 yr olds are exceptional, and making plenty of money (photos will follow). Market Square also held his own,and finished 06 on a high note in RDS Dublin, while we said goodbye to Ramon. He competed well in Holland with Jur Verling at 1 50 level, before we got an offer we couldn't afford to refuse, so he goes on to greener pastures. We wish him the best of luck.
French Buffet Gets Full Approval.
French Buffet is now fully approved with the Irish Horse Board. He went through extensive vet exams including complete x rays etc. His x rays were top calss, an unusual occurance in an older stallion who has competed to his level. He is getting many bookings now, and is in great form. Here is a photo of a foal by him taken last year in holland. I think she is beautiful. He should cross so well with the Irish Mares.
Foals For Sale
We have a selection of foals for sale now, both home bred and some lovely foals belong to some of our breeders. A list is on the for sale page.
Sambucco Well Again
Sambucco has finally started jumping again and is doing quiet well for team Nijhof. As you all know by now he became quite ill just before Dublin, and had to be withdrawn. He was diagnosed with Stomach Ulcers, which were extensive. Both ourselves and Clem had been worried about him for some time and at the end of the day although we were disappointed we were also glad to have found the reason for his poor form. Word from Holland is that he is happy again, and has been placed in a few small shows, and will be doing some bigger stuff shortly. So I will keep this page updated on his progress. One of his first foals here is the lovely Clover Hill mare which was owned by Mary Mc Grath, and which was purchased by Ivors Dad at Suma last year. She is a full sister to Coille Mor Hill, so that should be interesting!
Sale Results
Well as you probably know by now the sales were both good and bad in cavan. Our lovely Huntingfield Rebel Mare (3 yrs old) was sold for €10,500. She is RID and in foal to Gurraun Zidane, so best of luck to her new owners, the O Hanlons from Cavan. They said to me that they came especially to buy her!
The foal sales were very poor, and although our foals were making plenty of money for the day that was in it, we took them home again. Trade was poor and this should not make one sell good foals for less than you know they are worth.
2/october/05
Sales in Cavan
We will be in cavan on Tuseday and Wednesday this week for the Irish Draught and Foal sales. We have two very nice foals for Wednesday, one colt by Ramon, and another by Silvano. Both are from important Dam lines, the Ramon being out of Uganna, Silvano's full sister (by Corland) and the Silvano being out of a mare by Maelstorm Boy, and she is a half sister to Kilnadeema Star who represented Ireland at olympic level!
Both foals are beautiful, good movers and top pedigrees.
Huntingfield Rebel and French Buffet arrive
Here is Huntingfield Rebel on his return from a hack with Alex our groom
Well its been a busy season again, and due to lack of time I was unable to let you in on the very big news of two very special stallions which we have managed to secure. Huntingfield Rebel from Marily and Susan at Suma Stud has arrived here and will be standing with us for 2006. It is sad I know for Marily and Susie to send this beautiful gentleman to us as they embark on a new adventure in their lives. He has come to us looking so well, and has settled in perfectly, with Ramon as his next door neighbour. Both are so relaxed they get along just fine. Huntingfield Rebel is such a nice horse in every way. He loves to be taken for long hacks out, and also loves to roll in the mud when turned out! (not great for his lovely white coat) However I think he does it in order to get even more attention being washed and brushed! Having not seen him since he for some years, I had forgotten how beautiful he is. He will surely be a popular stallion for all owners and as he does super AI, will ship np problem. I hope we can have a dedicated page available soon.
French Buffet (who can be seen on out international stallions page, will be arriving here this week! Four years ago, while on a visit to VDL Stud in Holland, we saw this impressive thoroughbred, who has anequally impressive jumping careeer behind him. At that time we made it clear that if he was ever available to come here we would like to have him to make him available to Irish Breeders. Although he was already lined up to cover 2 seasons in Holland and then 2 in Sweeden, he is now going to come to us. We are privileged to be able to stand a TB of his calibre, of which I don't believe there is another available here.
He is approved in 4 stud books already, and is approved here (standing abroad) and will be presented to the IHR during October.(photos of both stallions and pages available soon.
At last, Back on line!
Sept 13 2005
At last I have my computer back and can update this site. Apologies for the lack of info here throughout the season. We were getting a major virus each time we connected to the internet despite usual anntivirus software etc. Its now 10:30p.m so I will promise to have all additions made by the weekend. including some exciting news !!!
Two New Stallions arrive for 2005
At last our two new stallions have arrived. Sambucco, by Voltaire and KMS Flash, by Market Square. Sambucco arrived on March 2nd, and went straight to Clem, as the stallion show in Necarne was on 5th. He is a lovely quality stallion, with movement as good as I've seen ! He jumps for fun, and we are delighted with him. He has passed his vetting and we sent him for inspection on the 15th, and are awaiting results. He is already approved with AES. He will be going to Cavan 3 day show at the begining of April. He won and was placed alot in Holland during the winter, so we hope he keeps up his impeccable record! I will have a dedicated page to him shortly, giving you all further details.Although by Voltaire, his dam line is equally as impressive!
Below is KMS Flash, our new coloured stallion by Market Square. His dam was by Flash Park Gold, who was sired by Kildalton Gold. It is difficult to find a coloured Irish Stallion with a pedigree at all, not to mind one as nice as this! He has alot of his dads attributes, and is beautifully marked. He is only 3 and is already a big hit on the yard! We are just breaking him at present, and he has already covered a few mares. He has exceptional paces with a big canter, and we were delighted with his jump. He actually has spring and scope, hard to find together in a coloured stallion! His page will also be up shortly!
Silvano Gets Full Approval with the Irish Horse Board.
Silvano and Clem at Cavan in Sept Indoor Championships.
Silvano went to the final stage of the IHB inspections on 18/10/04. Clem gave him a lovely ride and he jumped so well,. Then a international rider, from Belgium, had to ride Silvano over a bigger track, 1 35 and 1 40 in places. Well Silvano went to the clouds! He showed so much scope and ability, we felt really proud! He jumped so well, everyone could see he has the makings of a really super horse. And so, at last after x ray examinations and blood tests, we finally got official notice yesterday (14/12/04) that he is now fully approved. Its been a long road since he first came to Ireland as a yearling, so its a great achievement for him. He is on a well deserved rest right now, and hopefully back to work by March!
Thanks to everyone who believed in him and used him to date. His foals have been making prices from €3,700 to €10,000 , so its all looking good for him at the moment!
Ramon and Silvano in the placings at Cavan National Championships.
Both Ramon and Silvano had a great show at the National Championships in Cavan, held over 6 days. They are now with international rider Clem Mc Mahon (see below) and this was their second show together. On the first day Silvano jumped a lovely clear to qualify for the final of the five year old class. We have him on video at last and the round is great. Clem decided to take him in the second qualifier on Friday for a school, as he has so little done this season due to being at home for the stud season. He again jumped really well, and finished 6th, after the jumpoff. He was really nice and very cool for having done so little all year! Ramon jumped in the 1 30mt class on friday, and unfortunatly had one down. On Sunday Ramon jumped in the final of the 1 30mt speed, a real difficult and technical track, which proved almost impossible to get a clear round. There was a quadruple down the middle, and even the older ex grandprix horses were having it down. However, Clem gave Ramon a fab ride, and was clear, one of only 7 in a total of 69 horses! We were delighted, and have also gotten it on video. Then in the evening came the big class, the five year old classic. We were nervous for Silvano as he had so little experience and the track was 1 35mt, very strong for 5 yr olds. All of the 5 yr olds were phased by the lights, crowd etc. Silvano jumped very well and huge all round, but was upset by the double and panicked, and had the first part. We were terribly dissapointed as Silvano had been so nice all week, and felt a bit guilty for asking so much so soon after his return to work. He overjumped all his fences, and again shows us that the height of fence is irrlevent to him! He is such a careful horse, he hates to even think about touching a pole!
Overall we were very happy with their performance, and we plan to take Silvano to all the big shows for the rest of the season. Ramon will also continue to compete, as long as he is happy to stay in work. He has done a long season, jumping and covering, and so might need to come home for a break sooner than Silvano
Silvano filly in the ribbons at Omagh!
This lovely filly foal belonging to Derek and Laura Mc Connell took Reserve Champion at Omagh Show in July. Derek and Laura tell me she is very athletic and has a wonderful temperment. She seems much like her dad!
Ramon Wins €3000 6 & 7 year old class at Punchestown International.
Ramon pulled off the biggest win of his career by winning the 6 & 7 year old class at Punchestown international on 5/6/04. He beat off stiff competition in taking the honours. Darragh told us he was just going for a school, but after Shane Breen took the lead on Dorada, nothing would do Darragh but to have a go! Ramon was so impressive over the big colourful track, and went into the lead! In the line up were Irelands best horses of this age category! Comments from those who witnessed his round said he was Fantastic, and showed so much scope! Its a fantastic win for Ramon, who don't forget didn't jump as a 4 yr old, and was competiting here against 7 yr olds who have 3 yrs experience under their belt.
He is home for 2 weeks break, after which he will get ready for some more big classes.
Silvano's first foals of 2004 arrive! April 04.
Ramon and Silvano on Winning Form at Cavan Finals April 04
Both Ramon and Silvano gave great performances at the Cavan 3 day Winter finals on 2nd -4th April last. On Friday night Silvano was 4th out of 105 horses in the 1 10mt class, and went on to be 4th in the 1 20mt final on Sunday night. He was also, as far as we know, the only 5 year old in the final round of the 1 20mt, and the youngest in the prize money!
Ramon impressed us all, with Darragh Kenny in the saddle, jumping into 2nd place in the 1 30 mt class, only beaten by a 9 yr old mare just back from international duties. He again showed his huge scope and great technique. Darragh has only been riding Ramon for 6 weeks, and the pair look as if they were always together.
Ramon Now Approved In Two Studbooks
We are delighted that Ramon is now fully approved in the Anglo European Studbook as well as the world renowned KWPN studbook. He was approved to the AES in February, another endorsement for a top class stallion!
Silvano Ranked Top Showjumper in 2003 - Jan 04
In 2003 Silvano achieved super results as he showjumped throughout the country. He gained 52 SJAI points and was ranked 1st in Ireland. His nearest rival had 38 points! This is a fantastic achievement for a stallion, let alone one who also covered a large number of mares. We are delighted and are looking forward to a repeat performance in 04.
Fantastic Foal Prices
Just look at this beautiful colt foal by Ramon.. He was selected by a panel of international judges to go forward for auction at the Elite Foal Sale in Holland. He was among the top priced foals there being sold for a whopping €9250.00
Ramon’s foals are big, scopey, loose moving with loads of quality. We traveled to Holland in Sept to view some of these and this fellow is a typical example. Also as Ramon is one of the few KWPN approved sires in Ireland his Irish foals will be able to compete for selection to these Elite foal auctions.
Ramon Showing his Scope
This is a picture of Ramon jumping at Celbridge in the 1:20mt class. He had a very good season, jumping several clears, too many to mention. He won the Whittaker championship for 5& 6 year olds, was 4th in the Cavan Classic Qualifier, and qualified for Dublin. Ramon jumped well in Dublin, although he showed a little green- ness. He seemed a bit tired in Dublin and we later discovered his bloods were very low. He came home for a well deserved rest in the field, and is getting ready for the indoor shows
Silvano Impresses at Cavan
Silvano gave an exhibition in jumping at the recent Cavan 5 day show where he showed his amazing scope and technique over the flashy fences. On his first day in the main arena he exploded over each fence, He had never seen anything so colorful. He jumped in five classes on five days and never touched a pole!. He didn’t touch a pole all week- not even in warm up.
Tom said he felt really super! He was second in the qualifier for the final, and was placed in the top ten in that. He didn’t show himself as well in the final, but jumped a lovely clear all the same. However of all the finalists only two jumped clear in the final round, and several poles lay on the floor! But not by Silvano- He was the only 4 yr old, as far as we know, who didn‘t knock a pole all week.! Also he was the only representative of the stallions which were chosen for performance during his inspection- where are all the others?
Market Square covers the very best
Market Square had a very busy season and covered a wide variety of mares. He got some of Irelands top mares including Grade A show jumper, and winner of many showing titles Brehan Lass. He also covered the famous “Enniskeane Flash” winner of Dublin Irish Draught Champion and many more classes. We were delighted that many prominent Irish breeders chose Market Square. They know the value the thoroughbred has in our breeding programme!
Market Square or “Sniffie” as he was christened is remarkably fertile and has all his mares in foal. As he is natural service we could not manage to compete him and cover at the same time. His age is against him and we felt it would be too much for him. He had a break at grass and has now gone back to work. All going well he will jump in Cavan International ,Millstreet indoor and Kill indoor.
We discovered some interesting breeding facts about Market Square during the season. His Dam is a grand daughter of Anthony who famously sired Mill Pearl and Mill Ruby.
His pedigree has proven itself time and again. We wait with great excitement for the first foals in 2004!
Beautiful Foals& High Fertility Rates at Kylemore stud! June 2003
We are delighted with the fantastic crop of foals from Silvano. So far all his foals have his beautiful head and great rein. They also have his wonderful presence. They all move well, and are exceptionally straight! We are delighted with the quality of his first crop. He has given all his offspring to date a "stamp" From watching our own foals they seem to be naturally athletic and show scope. He is crossing very well indeed with the draught and half bred mares, giving them lots of quality.
Winner of 4yr old final at Duffys Claregalway
We were delighted with the ever careful Silvano who jumped so well at Duffy's Final show recently and won the 4yr old class. He was one of only 3 clear roudds on a track which was built with the five year olds in mind! However he jumped impeccably and divided first place with two others, as the youngsters are not expected to jump off against the clock.
Ramon
At a recent event in Ennis the highly impressive Ramon won the prestigious Whitaker Chamionship. After qualifying on the Sunday, Ramon went on to jump on the Monday, with the second round against the clock. Despite the fact that this was a 5 and 6 year old event, the 5 years old Kylemore Ramon went on to win outright, despite the fact that he had not jumped much in the previous 12 months.
This is proving to be very exciting times for the Kylemore Stud as Ramon to realise the enormous potential he has.
Silvano impresses at Necarne. March 2003
Silvano , Market Square and Ramon were all taken to Necarne for the Stallion Show recently. Silvano was the only 4 years old stallion to jump on the day and in his usual style he impressed everyone with his fantastic ability and technique. We were worried that Silvano might be upset as he had never performed where there was such a large audience. However, like his dad Corland, he was as cool as ever, concentrating on his job and jumping very well indeed. So well in fact that his semen has already taken a few trips up north of the border courtesy of Bus Eireann!
Again Market Square was the only TB Stallion to jump on the day. He jumped the 1 20m track with ease. He had only been one week with Tom Slattery at the time and they were only just getting to know each other.
Ramon jumped with loads of scope, and also drew alot of attention on himself. He has a big week ahead as he will be presented for inspection this week at the Cavan Inspections. Fingers Crossed!
We still await the first foals from Silvano. As soon as either one of the two now overdue foals appear, and all is well, we will put up a photo for you all to see.
